According to a video circulating on social media the current situation of Memunatu Sulemana’s accommodation where she lives in a wooden structure at Kanashie in Greater Accra region is a pathetic sight to behold.

Sulemana, a national hero, was part of the first Black Queens team to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World cup in 1999, 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The ex-goalkeeper emphasized that, the appearance fee, winning bonuses were not paid on time and that has led to her current situation.

Sulemana since retiring from football has struggled to cope with life, and now finds herself battling to cater for her basic needs.

According to the interview granted to Original FM, the 45-year-old disclosed that during their time, they did not make much money from football

“During our time, we could not make money from football and even the way we were paid left us in debt before we even receive our bonuses,” she said.

“They say when the government or the sports ministry owes you, they will pay, but as to when you never know. So I usually will borrow money to cater for myself and my ailing grandmother. “Before the money comes, you are already in huge debt.” She added.
