In an Accra High Court hearing, Daniel Osei-Kufuor, the husband of former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah, provided crucial testimony as the first prosecution witness in a case involving the theft of monies from their residence at Ablemkpe.

Osei-Kufuor revealed that the stolen funds belonged to various individuals, including himself, his wife, her family, and his niece, Dorcas Wiredua, who is also his client.

Under cross-examination by Counsel for Sarah Agyei, Osei-Kufuor clarified that the total amount stolen was approximately $410,000, contradicting the initial report of $1 million to the police.

He broke down the ownership of the stolen funds as follows:

  • $210,000 belonged to his wife’s deceased brother, Nana Akwasi Essan II (Charles Dapaah)
  • $200,000 belonged to Dorcas Wiredua, his niece and client
  • £300,000 belonged to himself
  • GHc300,000 was contributed by Cecilia Dapaah’s siblings and herself towards their late mother’s funeral
  • GHc50,000 belonged to Cecilia Dapaah

Osei-Kufuor explained that he and his wife discovered the theft of valuables and monies from their storeroom, including the aforementioned amounts.

The accused individuals, Patience Botwe, Sarah Agyei, and five others, have denied charges of conspiracy to steal, stealing, dishonestly receiving, and money laundering.

Despite being granted bail, they remain in custody due to unmet bail conditions.

The case continues with lawyers for Benjamin Sowah set to cross-examine Osei-Kufuor on May 20.

The presiding judge, Justice Marie-Louise Simmons, directed this move after Counsel for Sarah Agyei, Augustine Gyamfi, concluded his cross-examination.
