Liam Payne, a former One Direction member, died after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday. He was 31.
Payne fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel, sustaining severe injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The hotel manager described Payne as “overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol” and exhibiting aggressive behavior before the fall.
A 911 call revealed that Payne was destroying his room, prompting concerns about his safety due to the presence of a balcony.
Pablo Policicchio, Buenos Aires Security Ministry’s communications director, confirmed Payne jumped from his room’s balcony.
An investigation and autopsy are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Payne’s death.
Payne had previously spoken about his struggles with alcoholism and had shared that he had been sober for six months after undergoing treatment.
Fans gathered outside the hotel, leaving candles and flowers in memory of Payne, mourning the loss of a talented star.
