Ex South African president Jacob Zuma to be eligible for parole after four months

Authorities have said Former South African President Jacob Zuma was officially began serving his 15 months prison term on Thursday, July 8, 2021, will be eligible for parole in less than four months.

Justice Minister, Ronald Ramola made known to reporters that under the country’s correctional regulations, “the former president will be eligible for parole once a quarter of his sentence has been served. He will be afforded dignity throughout his term of incarceration”

Zuma surrendered to the police overnight and began serving his sentence in a prison located in a small agricultural town.

Zuma was dished with a jail term on July 29, after refusing to appear before the anti-corruption investigator.

Zuma, who is in “good spirits” will be placed in isolation for the first 14 days in jail in line with Covid-19 protocols, the minister said, adding that he would not receive “any special treatment.”
