The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has clarified that the exhibition of the Provisional Voters Register is specifically designed to address and correct any errors or omissions.

The EC emphasized that the final voters register, which is used for elections, is only printed after all identified issues in the provisional register have been resolved.

This procedure has been the standard practice since 1992.

The EC’s clarification comes in response to concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding discrepancies in the recently concluded Provisional Voters Register exhibition.

The NDC had called for an emergency meeting with the EC to address these concerns.

However, in a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 28, the EC reiterated that the purpose of the exhibition is to correct any issues, stating, “The rationale for exhibiting the Provisional Voters Register is to correct errors and omissions.

It is only after all identified issues are corrected that the Final Register is printed for the Elections.

This has been the practice since 1992.”

The EC also urged the public to disregard claims that the voters register is not fit for purpose.
