Security Consultant and risk analyst, Prof. Emmanuel Aning, has called on the flagbearers of the two major political parties, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (New Patriotic Party) and John Dramani Mahama (National Democratic Congress), to outline their plans for addressing the galamsey crisis.

This comes amid growing concerns about the devastating impact of illegal mining on the country.

In an interview with Bernard Avle on Point of View on Channel One TV, Prof. Aning stressed the importance of strong leadership from both political figures to combat this national threat.

“Galamsey has become an existential threat to Ghana, and I want to challenge Dr Bawumia and Mr John Mahama to stop their campaign for one day, half a day and for the two of them to tell the people of Ghana how they will bring this canker that is posing a threat to our citizens that we want to govern to an end.

“Sign a piece of paper and demonstrate that when they come to power, they will get it done.”

“…I think Dr Bawumia and Mr Mahama must demonstrate that leadership that the country that we want to govern is under threat. Its very existence is under threat,” he stated.
