The Food and Beverages Association of Ghana (FABAG) has cautioned the government to take immediate action to strengthen border controls and halt the illegal importation of food items into the country.Ghanaian culture-inspired products
The association warns that such activities could result in significant revenue losses for the state and create unfair competition for legitimate industry players.
The Executive Chairman of FABAG, John Awuni, called for urgent government intervention.
“Unscrupulous business people are smuggling goods across illegal borders, which has become a significant issue for the major business community. Smuggling is eroding potential government revenue, and if the government examines the revenue from certain commodities, it will realize there has been a decline.Local event listings and tickets
“For example, sugar, rice, and oil—many of these commodities are being smuggled into the country, “Mr. Awuni noted.
