The Overlord of Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, has voiced grave concerns over the persistent violence in Bawku, condemning what he describes as a worrying silence from authorities regarding attacks on security personnel and the destruction of state property.

In a statement read on his behalf at a press conference, following a formal briefing from Bawku Naaba Naa Alhaji Seidu Abagre, the Overlord expressed deep sorrow over the continued hostilities in the area. He lamented the disregard for peace efforts led by President John Mahama and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who have both called for calm and dialogue.
The Mamprugu Overlord specifically condemned the actions of some Kusasi youth, accusing them of engaging in arson, destroying public property, and issuing threats against security officers. He warned that such actions have greatly alarmed the people of Mamprugu and pose a serious threat to regional stability.
Naa Sheriga also criticised the recent visit by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to Bawku, describing it as lacking neutrality and seriousness in addressing the core issues fueling the conflict.
He lamented that no strong warnings were issued against those instigating violence and expressed disappointment that fallen officers were not duly honoured for their sacrifice.
“Such omissions risk demoralising our security forces and emboldening groups that thrive on disorder,” he cautioned, urging authorities to take swift and decisive action to restore stability.
