Nigerian artist Ayra Starr has opened up about the challenges of balancing fame and the pressures of the music industry in a recent interview with American singer and actress Coco Jones.

In a conversation produced by Rolling Stone, the two stars discussed the often-hidden difficulties faced by women in the spotlight, offering a candid glimpse into the realities of their professions.

Reflecting on her own journey, Ayra Starr shared the immense demands of her career, admitting that while the public only sees a small fraction of her life, it takes a team and a lot of effort to make things happen.

“I feel like it’s always a lot,” she confessed. “People only see about 1%, but for an artist, it takes a village. It takes so much to get things done right.”

She also spoke about the toll her hectic schedule took on her, particularly after a year filled with numerous performances.

“I did so many shows last year… sometimes I disappear when it gets overwhelming,” she said, acknowledging her need to retreat and recharge.

Describing how she copes with the pressures of fame, Ayra Starr revealed that, despite her busy lifestyle, she remains grounded by her family. “When I go back home, I’m still living with my family.

My brothers might be making noise and playing video games, so the house is still very much full,” she shared, explaining that being surrounded by her loved ones helps her find balance.

She also spoke about the comfort she finds in her cultural roots, explaining that wherever she travels, she seeks out Nigerian food to feel connected to home.

On her creative process, Ayra emphasized her commitment to artistic freedom. “I definitely listen to close people around me, but I knew what I wanted creatively,” she said.

“I’ve always had the freedom to create whatever kind of music I wanted.”

Despite the industry’s noise and expectations, Ayra Starr has remained focused on staying true to her vision.
