The family of late Bimbilla Naa Andani Dasana Abdulai has said it will not accept the Togbe Sri III’s mediation committee established by the government to find a lasting solution to the Bimbila chieftaincy issues.

They say government should rethink and enforce the Supreme Court ruling on the Bimbila skin rather than forming another committee to look into the matter.

Addressing a press conference in Bimbilla on Monday, the spokesperson for the Dasana family, Osman Kika said the family will only recognise the need for mediation if government arrests and prosecutes the killers of the late chief.

The family also said the process fell short of the traditional protocol and exhibits conflict of interest.

“As much as we believe in the intervention of third parties that will take us to another appreciable level as a kingdom, we think consultation and fairness cannot be considered as secondary.”

He indicated there can not be any mediation if justice is not served.

He said the family suspects that the appointment of Togbe Sri is politically motivated to do the bidding of their favourites.

They also stated that the appointment of a sole mediator amounts to an attempt to review the verdict of the Supreme Court.

“Having read the judgement, where is the ambiguity to merit the appointment of a sole mediator? Where is the dispute to be mediated upon again?”

They further stated that the family shall not forgive anyone who will watch the killers of their royal benefit from the bloodshed.

The decision over the rightful chief of Bimbilla had been in dispute for many years.

The issue was put before the National House of Chiefs for arbitration.

The verdict of the chiefs was subsequently affirmed by the Supreme Court in 2018, declaring Naa Andani II as the legitimate chief of the area but this ruling has since hit a snag.
