A 42-year-old farmer named Anas Ibrahim has been sentenced to 22 years in prison by the Dambai Circuit Court. He was convicted after admitting to attacking his pregnant wife with a cutlass in Banda, Oti Region.

The court sentenced him to five, seven, and ten years in jail for assault, inflicting multiple cutlass wounds, and attempted murder, respectively.

According to Detective Chief Inspector S. K. Gavor, Anas tried to enter his wife’s house unnoticed late at night but couldn’t get in. The next morning, he ambushed her on a farm and severely injured her without any provocation.

The victim received initial treatment at Banda Health Centre and was later transferred to Kpandai Polyclinic for further care. She has since been discharged from the hospital.

Anas claimed in response to the charges that he didn’t plan to harm his wife but said she hit him on the head with a stick, causing him to bleed. This allegedly angered him and led to the attack.
