Guinea has been thrown into a state of mourning after eight players of a second-tier side Club Sportif Etoile de Guinee perished in a road accident.
The accident which claimed eight lives also saw several others sustain serious injuries.
Guinea bus crash claims at least eight footballers’ lives. At least eight players from Guinean second division side Etoile de Guinee passed away while 17 others were seriously injured following a bus accident on Thursday morning. The accident occurred towards Timbo in Mamou, over 200km from the capital city of Conakry.
The accident occurred while Club Sportif Etoile de Guinee were on their way for a league tie against newly promoted Karfamoriah there on account of the first day of the second-tier season.
The tragic accident happened on Timbo-Mamou stretch about 250 kilometres from the capital Conakry.
Few months ago top-flight side Wakriya AC were also a victim of a road accident which claimed the lives of three people, including the driver.
