The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has ramped up its market surveillance efforts, seizing numerous unapproved products found in circulation across Ghana.
This move follows the FDA’s recent actions against over 100 manufacturing companies nationwide since January for promoting unapproved products.
In a recent media briefing, James Aboagye, the team lead for Market Surveillance, urged the public to stay vigilant.
He advised consumers to thoroughly check the details on products—such as food, medicine, and personal care items like shower gels—to ensure they comply with FDA standards.
“We conducted market surveillance activities, and these are some of the activities we do on a daily basis.
Based on the intelligence we have on our schedules, we visit districts in different locations and we conduct the exercise in different facilities, pharmacies, marts, shops, those selling households, and all that. Provided that they are selling foods that are regulated by the FDA.”
