The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has called on voters to reject Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, in the upcoming election.
In an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View, Kwetey accused Dr. Bawumia of attempting to distance himself from the economic challenges and mismanagement that occurred under his leadership as head of the Economic Management Team.

Kwetey criticized Bawumia for taking credit for perceived successes, while avoiding responsibility for the severe difficulties the Ghanaian people currently face.
He argued that Dr. Bawumia’s selective acknowledgment of his record undermines his credibility as a leader and his ability to govern effectively.
“As far as this election is concerned, you have a situation where you have a candidate on the NPP [Bawumia], who is trying very hard to distance himself from the difficulties and at the same time trying to take advantage of the limited successes. You see a real conundrum here, he’s not got the courage to own up to the problem and say this has been me, I have been part of this driving and the processes I own it. I’m responsible. But no, I’m not responsible for the minuses, but the positive ones, he says it’s my policy, it’s my contributions.”
He accused Bawumia of attempting to deceive the country with lies, describing him as “desperate”.
“We’ve seen Prof Mills as vice president, and we’ve seen John Mahama as Vice President, they never ran away from the collective situations. But here is a candidate who actually thinks that he’s smart, who’s trying to play the country and pretending he’s not part of the difficulty. But he wants to take advantage of the pluses and that speaks to character.
“It tells you that this is an individual who is simply desperate, who will do anything for power, who will lie if he has to. He has convenient lies and so on. The issue of character becomes important.”
