Finance Minister promises GHC500k scholarship for journalists in Northern Region

Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, the Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga Constituency in the Northern Region, has announced a GHC500,000 scholarship scheme for journalists in the Northern Region.

He highlighted that many journalists struggle financially and often seek support from politicians for their education.

Dr. Adam, who has maintained a positive relationship with journalists since his time as the Mayor of Tamale, acknowledged the low wages that drive journalists to seek financial assistance.

He expressed his concern about the inadequate compensation for their sacrifices and shared his astonishment at the poor working conditions faced by many journalists, including those working in radio, TV, and newspapers.

Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam expressed his concern over the challenging conditions faced by journalists, despite their crucial role in conveying public messages to the government and informing citizens about policies.

He announced a GHC500,000 scholarship, named the ‘Anta-GJA Scholarship for Journalists in the Northern Region,’ to support journalists in the area.

Dr. Adam urged media owners to improve journalists’ salaries, emphasizing the need for fair compensation given their vital contributions to society.

He also highlighted the government’s efforts to invest in social programs, noting the increase in funding for health insurance despite economic difficulties.

Furthermore, Dr. Adam encouraged journalists to use their platforms responsibly to help maintain peace during the upcoming 2024 general elections.
