Fire outbreak at the race course market, Kumasi

Firefighters have successfully managed a fire incident which began around 7am at the race course Market in Kumasi,Ashanti region.

The fire outbreak wreaked havoc on over 70 shops however, the incident resulted in substantial property losses estimated to be worth thousands of Ghana Cedis affecting mostly metal container stores specializing in local spices,cowhide,and secondhand clothing.

Meanwhile,there were no reported casualties.The affected traders are however counting their losses and have called on authorities to extend a hand in assisting them.

Information gathered indicates that the fire broke out in a shop where a trader was boiling water for a bath for her child.

Speaking to the media, the Ashanti Regional Commander of the Ghana Fire Service, ACFO Henry Giwah, voiced concerns about safety practices within the market. Notably, he pointed out that some traders utilize stoves and gas cylinders for on-site cooking.

In response to the incident, authorities have launched an investigation to uncover the root cause of the fire and evaluate safety measures within the market.
