A fierce blaze tore through the Madina Redco Flats late last night, reducing more than 150 structures to ashes and tragically claiming the life of a young woman.

The fire erupted around 11:15 p.m., swiftly engulfing 140 wooden structures and 20 metal containers that served both residential and commercial purposes.

Firefighters from the Madina Fire Station arrived at the scene within two minutes, receiving reinforcements from the Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and Headquarters fire stations. Despite their prompt response, the fire had already reached a critical stage, complicating containment efforts.

By 12:02 a.m., firefighters had managed to confine the blaze, and it was fully extinguished by 2:22 a.m.

Tragically, a Nigerian woman identified only as Beauty, believed to be in her early twenties, was unable to escape the flames. Her remains have been handed over to the Madina Police for preservation and further investigation.

Officials are reportedly evaluating the extent of damage and probing the cause of the fire, as affected residents and business owners struggle to come to terms with their losses.
