Nigerian superstar Flavour has stated that he doesn’t identify as an Afrobeats artist, but rather as an African artist.
In an interview on The Afrobeats Podcast with Adesope, Flavour expressed his frustration with the media’s focus on Afrobeats, neglecting other African music.
He emphasized the importance of promoting African music, not just Afrobeats. Flavour’s stance reflects his music, which blends cultural elements and has earned him distinctions. His latest album, ‘African Royalty,’ showcases his African roots.
Flavour also mentioned that not every artist needs to fit into the Afrobeats narrative, citing Asake’s modern take on Fuji music.
He has collaborated with African artists like Fally Ipupa and Diamond Platnumz, solidifying his position as an African artist.
