
The immediate past vice president of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Climate Action for Africa (CAP-A) board of directors.
The statement issued by the CAP-A Founder James Mwangi read partly, “We are deeply honored to have Prof. Osinbajo join the CAP-A Board of Directors as Chair to assist with the next phase of our growth and our mission of unlocking Africa’s potential as a global hub for climate action.
“His vast experience and passion for transforming African countries’ economies in harmony Africa Climate Summit that made a strong push for accelerated climate action.” the statement read.
While accepting the offer, Osinbajo, in a short statement on his Instagram page Tuesday, wrote;
“Thrilled to announce my acceptance of the offer to lead CAP-A as the new Chair of the Board of Directors! I am excited to drive climate action across Africa alongside an incredible team”.
Meanwhile, the recent appointment of Osinbanjo as the chairman of the board of directors of CAP-A will be his second international appointment since leaving office on May 29, 2023
It would be recalled that Osinbajo was appointed the Global Advisor to assist the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) earlier in July. The company announced the appointment of the former vice president on its website on Tuesday, July 11.
Osinbajo served as the vice president of Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for two consecutive terms between 2015-2023.
The former vice president was the National Economic Council (NEC) chairman during the immediate past administration. He also chaired the trader money policy of the federal government during his time in office.
