The Electoral Commission (EC) declared on Tuesday, April 30th, that a by-election would take place in Ejisu following the passing of John Kumah, a Member of Parliament for the New Patriotic Party.

John Kumah, who was also a Deputy Finance Minister, passed away on Thursday, March 7th, at 45 years old, due to an illness. He is survived by his wife and six children.

Kwabena Owusu Aduomi’s decision to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming by-election stems from his dissatisfaction with the NPP’s national leadership, which he believes has failed to address crucial issues concerning the integrity of the party’s delegates’ album.

A statement issued by his campaign aide, Nana Osei Bonsu, on Friday, April 12, 2024, highlighted that irregularities during the Ejisu polling station executive elections largely influenced Kwabena Owusu Aduomi’s choice.

The statement made allegations regarding the arbitrary choices of candidates by the late MP of Ejisu, John Kumah, and the regional executives of the NPP.

These actions were seen as a clear violation of the party’s constitution and core principles.

Instead of following the democratic process, the late MP of Ejisu, with the help of the Regional Executives of the NPP, chose individuals for important roles without proper consideration for the party’s constitution and principles.

Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former Member of Parliament for Ejisu under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared his intention to stand as an independent candidate in the forthcoming by-election.

He emphasized that his choice to participate independently highlights his dedication to preserving democratic principles and promoting openness and responsibility within the party.

The statement concluded that Owusu-Aduomi’s decision to contest the by-election as an independent candidate underscored his unwavering commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring transparency and accountability within the party.

It was emphasized that by refusing to participate in an ostensibly flawed process, he sent a clear message that integrity and fairness must prevail, even at the expense of personal political aspirations.
