Former President John Dramani Mahama attended the episcopal ordination of the Most Reverend Francis Bomansaan, M.Afr., as the new Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wa on Friday.

Born on January 19, 1962, in Kaleo, Bishop Bomansaan has had a distinguished career in the Catholic Church, having taken his final vows with the Society of the Missionaries of Africa in 1990 and serving as a parish priest in various locations.

Mahama, also the flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed gratitude to the Catholic Church for its contributions to the nation.

He congratulated the newly ordained Bishop and encouraged him to use his role to pray for Ghana, especially in anticipation of the 2024 general elections.

Mahama urged for a fair and clear election process, using recent troubles in nearby countries as a warning of what should be avoided. He stressed the need to protect democracy and maintain peace.

His attendance at the ceremony shows his close ties with the Catholic community. He also took the time to remember the late Cardinal Richard Kuuia Cardinal Baawobr with affection.
