President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has highlighted several government initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of education. These efforts encompass teacher training programs, curriculum reforms, and the integration of digital tools to enrich the teaching and learning experience.

Through these investments in educator development and educational modernization, the government seeks to establish a robust foundation for the nation’s future.

“We have launched several interventions aimed at improving the quality of education and ensuring that every child receives a holistic and well-rounded education,” the president stated while receiving his fifth honorary doctorate degree from Valley View University on Sunday, 14th July 2024.

In addition to the Free SHS policy, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting tertiary education.

The introduction of the “No Guarantor” policy by the Student Loan Trust Fund has been particularly instrumental in expanding access to higher education.

By removing the need for a guarantor, this policy has enabled students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue their educational goals without facing excessive financial barriers.

As a result, the number of students seeking tertiary education has surged from 443,978 in the 2016/2017 academic year to 711,695 in the 2022/2023 academic year.

To meet the increasing demand from tertiary students, the government plans to establish four new universities in Mampong, Akrodie, Bunso, and Kintampo, while also expanding facilities at existing institutions.

These efforts are integral to the government’s goal of achieving a Gross Tertiary Enrollment Ratio of 40% by 2030, a significant increase from the current 18.84%.

“The educational reforms carried out by the Akufo-Addo Government have also encompassed tertiary education, materially advancing access, infrastructure development, and STEM initiatives across the country,” the President stated.

President Akufo-Addo has underscored the government’s strong emphasis on supporting academia through the timely disbursement of research and book allowances.

Since 2020, GH¢226 million has been allocated for research allowances and GH¢491 million for book allowances.

These investments are designed to foster an environment conducive to scholarly inquiry and innovation, thereby enhancing educational quality and promoting research excellence in Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo expressed his aspiration to be remembered as the “Education President,” emphasizing his dedication to education as a pivotal driver of national development.

President Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to prioritizing education as a cornerstone of Ghana’s progress.

He highlighted the substantial investments and initiatives undertaken by his administration, aimed at transforming Ghana into a knowledge-based economy.

His address at Valley View University underscored the significant strides made in the education sector and reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring quality education for all Ghanaians.
