Renowned American musician PJ Morton has unveiled a revolutionary album, “Cape Town to Cairo”, born from an extraordinary 30-day African odyssey.
This masterpiece, available via Morton Records/EMPIRE, has had a profound impact on Morton, akin to Paul Simon’s transformative experience with Graceland.

With no preconceived music or lyrics, Morton bravely embarked on this creative journey, driven by a vision to craft an album within a month.
His travels spanned Cape Town, Johannesburg, Lagos, Accra, Cairo, and back to South Africa, with many destinations being uncharted territory.
Morton’s goal was to capture the authentic emotions and cultural diversity he encountered, opting to write and record the entire project on African soil.
This innovative approach yielded a vibrant genre-bending fusion of R&B, soul, gospel, pop, and jazz, all infused with Africa’s rich musical heritage.
“Cape Town to Cairo” is a testament to the African diaspora’s musical tapestry, presented in Morton’s distinctive style.
In addition, Morton’s memoir, “Saturday Night, Sunday Morning”, chronicling his remarkable career journey, is set for release on November 12th through Worthy Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group.
The book explores the intricate intersections of music, faith, race, culture, and personal identity, offering a glimpse into Morton’s pioneering path.
