Alan Kyerematen, founder and leader of the Movement for Change, has strongly criticized both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their longstanding failure to address the issue of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

Kyerematen highlighted that over the years, neither party has demonstrated the political will needed to tackle this problem effectively.
Speaking at an investor forum at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Wednesday, September 18, he emphasized the urgent need for new leadership capable of taking bold action against illegal mining and other pressing national challenges.
He expressed serious concern over the environmental and social impact of galamsey, calling it an existential threat to the nation.
“The two major parties have failed to adequately address the issue of galamsey, and we, as Ghanaians, cannot afford to take this matter lightly.
“We need new leaders with both the capacity and the political will to confront this challenge head-on,” Kyerematen stated.
His remarks come at a time when illegal mining continues to wreak havoc across the country, endangering water bodies, farmlands, and livelihoods.
