Martin Okyere, a gas station operator, was tragically shot and killed by suspected armed robbers in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region on Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred around 6:30 PM GMT when two men arrived at the station in a vehicle. Witnesses report that the assailants fired multiple rounds before targeting Okyere and fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash from his pocket.
Recounting the incident, an eyewitness told Channel One News on Thursday, “I was in the room with my wife when she alerted me that the gasman was shouting. She thought something was wrong. I rushed out and found him on the floor, bleeding.”
Authorities are investigating the case as they work to apprehend the suspects.
“I didn’t know what was wrong with him, so I tried approaching him. I saw one of the men in front of the man’s house, and the person just removed a gun. I tried pulling the man from the floor, and he just shot the gun. I bent and ran with the man’s daughter. When I got there too, I saw that the other man was removing something from his pocket. I initially thought he was helping the man.
“This is the first time that it has happened. I rushed to town, and when I got back, I was told he had been taken to the hospital. The information I got from the hospital is that he’s dead. He is called Quarshie, but we all call him brother.”
