Former Swiss international footballer Gelson Fernandes has been promoted to Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer at FIFA, effective November 1st.

Since transitioning from his playing career, Gelson has excelled in football administration, bringing the same passion, energy, and professionalism that defined his time on the field.

In his new role, he will work closely with Chief Member Associations Officer Elkhan Mammadov, continuing his focus as Director of Member Associations for Africa and supporting football development across the continent.

“Gelson’s transition from footballer to administrator has been remarkable. His positive energy and dedication to football development make him a standout leader within our organization,” said FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström.
