GES Opens applications for teacher promotions to higher ranks

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially opened applications for the promotion of qualified teachers and officers to higher ranks within the service.

The promotion exercise covers four categories: Deputy Director, Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Principal Superintendent. Applications are strictly open to serving teachers who meet the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Deputy Director – Applicants must have attained the rank of Assistant Director I in or before 2020 and remained at post since, except for approved leave.
  • Assistant Director I – Applicants must have been promoted to Assistant Director II in or before 2020 under the same conditions.
  • Assistant Director II – Candidates must have held the rank of Principal Superintendent in or before 2020.
  • Principal Superintendent – Applicants must have attained the rank of Senior Superintendent I in or before 2020.

GES added that teachers with an approved undergraduate degree will automatically be placed at the Principal Superintendent level.

For those relying on higher academic qualifications, the service clarified that only Master’s or PhD programmes approved by GES will be accepted. In addition:

  • Certificates must not have been obtained before the applicant’s last promotion.
  • Only qualifications earned in or before 2022 will be considered for promotion to Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Deputy Director ranks.

Application Process

Applications are to be submitted online through https://bit.ly/gespromotions2025 or by scanning the official QR code provided by GES. Each applicant must upload:

  • A recent passport-size photograph,
  • Their last promotion or appointment letter, and
  • Their highest academic certificate (PDF format, except the photograph).

The application window opens on Monday, August 18, 2025, and closes on Friday, September 5, 2025.

GES urged all eligible teachers to take note of the timelines and ensure accurate submission of documents to avoid disqualification.
