The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has refrained from commenting on the future of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo following a high-stakes meeting on Wednesday.
This silence comes at a time of mounting public pressure and calls for his dismissal due to Ghana’s underwhelming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign.

The meeting, which included the GFA Executive Council, Regional Football Association Chairmen, and Otto Addo himself, focused primarily on Ghana’s poor performance in the AFCON qualifiers. The Black Stars failed to secure a win in any of their six matches, managing to score just three goals while failing to qualify for the prestigious tournament for the first time in two decades.
The team’s lackluster results have sparked widespread frustration among fans, pundits, and stakeholders alike, leading to increased scrutiny over Addo’s position as head coach.
During the meeting, Addo presented a comprehensive 56-page technical report, which outlined the Black Stars’ struggles and identified areas for improvement. He acknowledged full responsibility for the team’s disappointing campaign and proposed a detailed plan aimed at rebuilding the squad.
His report highlighted the need to address issues such as discipline, accountability, and team cohesion. Addo also emphasized the importance of fostering a more collective and focused mindset to restore the Black Stars to their former glory.
Despite the critical nature of the discussion, the GFA’s official statement did not provide any indication regarding Addo’s job security. Instead, the statement reinforced the GFA’s commitment to rebuilding the national team, stating that “the process will focus on fostering collective will and single-mindedness to rebuild the Black Stars into a formidable force.”
The absence of any direct comment on Addo’s future left many wondering whether the GFA intends to make a change at the helm.
Sources within the GFA have indicated that, despite the team’s disappointing performance under Addo, the association is leaning toward retaining the coach. Since his appointment in March 2024, Addo has overseen just two wins in ten matches, with the Black Stars enduring six consecutive winless games.
This poor run of form, coupled with the failure to qualify for AFCON, has raised doubts over Addo’s ability to lead the team through the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
While the Black Stars are currently joint-top of their qualifying group for the World Cup, skepticism persists over Addo’s capacity to recover from the AFCON debacle and secure a spot in the global tournament. Many fans and football experts are questioning whether his leadership is the right fit for the team’s long-term goals.
The GFA’s decision regarding Addo’s future remains unclear, but with the pressure mounting, it is expected that further discussions will take place in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, the GFA will likely continue its efforts to rebuild the team, but questions over Addo’s effectiveness and ability to achieve success in the upcoming qualifiers will remain at the forefront of the debate.
