In a significant move to combat HIV and AIDS, the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) and its partners have announced a comprehensive campaign in anticipation of World AIDS Day on December 1, 2023.
The campaign, dubbed “Red Ribbon Month,” aims to raise awareness, promote HIV testing and treatment, and unite communities in the fight against the disease.
The official launch of this year’s World AIDS Day activities is scheduled for Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Ministry of Information Press Centre in Accra.
The month-long initiative will culminate in a national durbar on Thursday, November 30, 2023.
The theme for this global event, as released by the UNAIDS, is “Let Communities Lead.” It emphasizes the importance of giving voice to communities affected by HIV and AIDS and encourages collaboration, community strength, and local leadership to address critical issues that hinder progress in ending AIDS.
According to the Ghana AIDS Commission, communities will be at the forefront of various “Red Ribbon Month” campaign activities. The Ghana AIDS Commission intends to use radio and television interviews, interactive educational sessions, and the dissemination of digital posters on social media platforms and other digital channels to drive the campaign.
Their goal is to sensitize Ghanaians about the benefits of HIV self-testing, treatment, and the prevention of mother-to-child transmission services.
The Ghana AIDS Commission and its partners further extended an invitation to all communities, including the media and stakeholders, to participate in the 2023 World AIDS Day commemoration. Together, they believe they can make a significant stride toward ending AIDS by 2030.
