Ghana Broadcasting Corporation declares new management model to ensure sustainability

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has announced plans to privatise its management structure as part of efforts to ensure the long-term sustainability of the state broadcaster.

The proposal comes amid ongoing debates about how best to restructure state media institutions to enhance efficiency and competitiveness in Ghana’s rapidly evolving media landscape.

According to the Corporation, its shareholder agreements have failed to yield the expected results. The new approach will see only the management of GBC handed over to private control, while ownership of the facility remains entirely with the Corporation.

Director-General of GBC, Prof. Amin Alhassan, disclosed this during an interaction with the Communication and Information Committee of Parliament during a working visit to the Corporation.

“We will own the facility one hundred percent, but we will allow for a private management team to take over, and we will make sure we keep our eyes on them. As for the private sector participation in shareholding, it hasn’t helped us,” he explained.
