The Ghana Embassy in Washington, D.C., has held a solemn memorial service to honour the memory of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six other officials who perished in the August 6, 2025, military helicopter crash.
The ceremony brought together diplomats, clergy, and members of the Ghanaian community in the U.S., including a delegation of Ghanaian clergy based in Maryland. The gathering served as a moment of reflection on the lives, service, and enduring contributions of the deceased to Ghana’s development.

In her address, Acting Head of Mission H.E. Jane Gasu Aheto expressed deep gratitude to ambassadors and community members who signed the Book of Condolence, reaffirming the commitment of Ghanaians to continue serving “for God and country” despite the tragedy.
Bishop Evans Glover, head of the clergy delegation, paid a moving tribute to the fallen, urging Ghanaians to remain steadfast in faith. He assured that God would comfort, protect, and restore the nation, and prayed such a tragedy would never occur again.

The clergy also remembered the victims of a separate accident in Juaso, which claimed the lives of 16 Saviour Church Youth members, offering prayers for their grieving families.
The memorial served as both a tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of the crash victims and a space for the Ghanaian diaspora and friends of Ghana abroad to join in collective mourning.
