The Ghana Football Association’s spokesperson, Henry Asante Twum, has shed light on the altercation between Ghanaian players and Central African Republic officials following their match on June 10, 2024.

Jordan Ayew, who scored a hat-trick, and assistant coach Joseph Laumann were at the center of the scuffle.

According to Asante Twum, the melee was sparked by verbal abuse from a Central African Republic player and assistant coach, who hurled insults in French, unaware that Ayew and some Ghanaian players understood the language.

Ayew confronted the player, while Laumann, who is also fluent in French, confronted the assistant coach.

Asante Twum revealed that the Central African Republic team attempted to distort the narrative, claiming they were robbed, and their coach even abandoned the post-match press conference.

However, the situation was diffused, and escalation was prevented.

The Black Stars secured a 4-3 victory, with Fatawu Issahaku scoring the other goal. The team currently stands second in Group I with nine points from four matches.
