Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye has directed the Ghana Health Service to submit a comprehensive report on the alleged patient dumping incident at Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital within a month.

This follows a briefing from GHS Director-General Dr. Patrick Kumah-Aboagye on the matter.

The Minister commended the GHS for promptly establishing an investigation committee and relieving the Medical Director of his duties pending the outcome.

Dr. Okoe-Boye expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to uncover the truth and make recommendations to prevent similar incidents.

He emphasized the need for a thorough and timely investigation, setting a 30-day deadline for the report’s submission.

The Minister acknowledged the efforts of the GHS in maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s healthcare system, stating, “Thank you for your efforts to ensure the integrity of the healthcare system in Ghana.”

The incident in question involved hospital officials allegedly abandoning a patient in a nearby bush due to their inability to locate the patient’s relatives, prompting the GHS to take action.

A five-member committee has been established to investigate the matter, and the Minister expects a comprehensive report detailing the findings and recommendations.

The Minister’s directive demonstrates his commitment to ensuring accountability and quality care in Ghana’s healthcare system.

The incident has raised concerns about patient safety and the need for improved protocols in handling difficult situations.

The outcome of the investigation and the subsequent report will be crucial in addressing these concerns and preventing similar incidents in the future.
