Ghana’s Parliament, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, is hosting the 2nd General Assembly of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL) from October 25 to 27, 2024.

Established in 2020, CoSPAL aims to enhance collaboration among Speakers and Presidents of Parliaments across Africa, addressing common challenges and devising collective strategies to advance the continent’s development.

The first General Assembly took place in Abuja in May 2022, focusing on post-COVID economic recovery and democratic governance.

The upcoming assembly will convene approximately 120 participants, including 15 Speakers and Presidents of National Legislatures, 30 Deputy Speakers, and clerks and secretaries from various African parliaments.

The conference seeks to build on the foundations laid during the first assembly, fostering unity and collaborative governance among African legislatures.

It also represents a significant step towards improving legislative effectiveness and addressing shared challenges across the continent.

The Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City will host the conference, allowing the Ghanaian Parliament to showcase its democratic values and renowned hospitality to its continental peers.

This assembly highlights Ghana’s commitment to enhancing regional solidarity and legislative collaboration in Africa.
