According to the latest estimates from the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ghana, Morocco, and South Africa together accounted for over half of Sub-Saharan Africa’s exports of digitally delivered services.
The WTO report, which analyzed trade data from 2022 to 2023, identifies Ghana as the top exporter of digitally delivered services in Africa, with exports valued at $6.2 billion in 2022.

This accounts for a 19% share of the regional market.
The report projects significant growth in Ghana’s digital service exports for 2024, following a remarkable 30% increase in the previous year.
This growth is attributed to the government’s ongoing efforts to bolster the digital economy.
Despite uneven infrastructure development across the continent, substantial progress has been made, with nearly half of Africa now benefiting from improved connectivity.
The report highlights that further advancement in digital services will require additional policy and regulatory reforms.
These reforms should focus on making digital communications more affordable, enhancing citizens’ digital and entrepreneurial skills, and positioning businesses to leverage new opportunities in the digital economy.
