The Ghana Police Service, Ahafo Regional Command, has arrested three suspects in connection with unlawful possession of firearms and alleged preparation to commit robbery.
In a press briefing dated February 24, 2026, the Police said the suspects — Johnson Mawutor, 26; Kelvin Ofori, 22; and Mawuli Dogba, 20 — were intercepted on February 22, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m. by a regional taskforce patrol team conducting a stop-and-search operation along the Ayomso–Goaso road.
According to the Police, Mawutor and Ofori were riding an unregistered motorbike towards Ayomso near Goaso when they allegedly attempted to flee after spotting officers.
“On seeing the Police at a distance, the suspects switched off the motorbike’s headlights and made a U-turn in an attempt to escape. The Police pursued and arrested them,” the statement said.
A search conducted on the suspects reportedly uncovered an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition concealed in a bag.
Further investigations led officers to a residence at Abro Danho, a suburb of Goaso, where additional items were retrieved from Mawutor’s room. These included a Beretta Bruni pistol, an NM157-1941 pistol, 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, four Motorola handsets, one Contiso F35 drone, a machete, and a bayonet knife.
Preliminary investigations indicate that earlier on the same day, Mawutor allegedly instructed his cousin, Mawuli Dogba, to accompany another suspect, Mohammed–Adinan Ussif, currently at large, to Techiman in the Bono East Region to collect a parcel. The parcel, later intercepted by the police, was said to contain the AK-47 rifle.
Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspect at large and any other persons connected to the case. The three suspects are expected to be put before the court as investigations continue.
The Ahafo Regional Police Command assured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace and security and urged the public to volunteer information to assist in crime-fighting efforts.
