The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 21-year-old suspect, Gilbert Awuni, popularly known as Starboy, in connection with the recent fatal shooting at a naming ceremony in Gbawe Zero, a suburb of Accra.

According to police reports, Awuni was part of a group of gun-wielding individuals who attended the event.

He allegedly fired his weapon at close range, leading to the instant death of 33-year-old Queen Mother, Pearl Naa Dodoo, and causing severe injuries to Priscilla Naa Ayeley, who was shot in the chest.

The suspect, who reportedly admitted to firing the weapon under the influence of alcohol, fled the scene and went into hiding in Asokore, located in the Ashanti Region, where he was later arrested.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Greater Accra Regional Police Headquarters on Monday, July 7, the Director of Public Affairs, DSP Juliana Obeng, confirmed that Awuni has been arraigned and is expected to reappear in court on July 16, 2025.

“The suspect has been arraigned and is expected to reappear in court on July 16,” DSP Obeng said.

In a separate operation, DSP Obeng also announced the arrest of another suspect involved in the theft of 12 motorbikes within a single week.
