Ghana records 508 new COVID-19 cases

Ghana has now recorded 508 additional cases of novel coronavirus diseases (COVID-19) bringing the total number of cases to 153, 514.

Based on yesterday’s figure available on Ghana Health Service (GHS) website, 143,151 people have been cured of the disease. 1,343 people have died of the disease, with 44 are in serious condition and 12 in critical condition.

GHS indicated on their website that there are currently 9,020 active cases.

Routine surveillance revealed that 57,047 people were positive following 470,489 tests. 90,093 people were positive following enhanced contact tracing tests out of 969,717 total tests carried out.

Furthermore, 6,374 of 740,114 international passenger who were tested at KIA tested positive.

According to the Service, it had conducted 2,180,320 test since March 2020’s outbreak with a positive rate of 7.0%.

The regional case count shows that Greater Accra has 85,438 confirmed cases. Ashanti is second with 22,219 cases.

Eastern has 6,903 confirmed cases and Western has 8,140.

According to the Service, Volta also had 5,830 cases confirmed while Central had 5,382 cases.

According to the GHS, there were 2,882 cases in the Bono East Region and 2,255 in the Bono Region.

The Northern Region is home to 1,826 cases, followed by the Upper East Region which has 1,676 cases.

Ahafo Region contains 1,127 cases. Western North has 1,094, Oti 914, 914, and Upper West has 805 cases. North East has 358, while Savannah Region is home to 291 cases.

The Service warned that there could be an increase in cases and spread of COVID-19 variants if Ghanaians get complacent.

The service asked those who have not received the vaccine to continue to follow the safety precautions for the New Year.
