The Ghana Red Cross Society has refuted allegations of financial malfeasance and misconduct raised by Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George. During Monday’s parliamentary proceedings, the Public Accounts Committee presented its report on the 2021 Auditor General’s report, triggering discussions on public institutions.

Samuel Nartey George, a Member of Parliament and a participant in the Public Accounts Committee, called for an investigation into the Ghana Red Cross Society’s activities, accusing it of financial impropriety. Mr. George urged the House to initiate an inquiry, claiming that the organization incurred a loss of GH¢787,600 and misused resources for personal gain, expressing concerns about potential repercussions on donor-funding organizations.

In response, the Acting Secretary-General of the Ghana Red Cross Society, Glolo Solomon Gayoni, clarified that the raised issues are currently under investigation through the organization’s issues management process. He stated, “The Ghana Red Cross Society has launched investigations into the specific matters raised by the MP and is committed to engaging with Parliament to provide clarity on the issues.”

Mr. Gayoni emphasized that the matter is already under investigation, involving both the Red Cross and Parliament. He highlighted that Parliament has referred the issue to the Attorney General’s Department for further action. He reiterated the Red Cross’s commitment to collaborating with the Public Accounts Committee, acknowledging their valuable input in enhancing the organization’s success story.
