The Minister of Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adje, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two leading Turkish infrastructure firms to undertake preliminary and detailed engineering designs for a major water treatment plant to serve communities in the eastern part of Accra.
The agreement was signed with Kocak Çevre, an engineering and construction company with extensive experience in the development of water supply systems and related infrastructure, and Hacıoğlu Holding A.Ş, a fully integrated infrastructure development and project execution company specialising in large-scale water systems, energy networks, superstructure, and logistics projects.
Under the joint partnership, the two firms will collaborate on the design of a proposed water treatment plant with a production capacity of approximately 300,000 cubic metres per day.
The facility is expected to significantly enhance potable water supply to beneficiary communities and fast-growing areas within the eastern corridor of Accra.
The sector Minister described the partnership as a major step towards addressing increasing water demand, which is driven by rapid urbanisation and population growth in the Greater Accra Region.
Once completed, the project is anticipated to improve water reliability, expand coverage, and strengthen long-term water security in the capital’s eastern zones.
The MoU marks the beginning of the technical planning phase, paving the way for full project development and eventual construction of the large-scale treatment facility.
