U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia E. Palmer, has assured that the strong relationship between the United States and Ghana will remain unwavering, regardless of the outcome of the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
In a press statement on November 6, 2024, Ambassador Palmer emphasized that the U.S. is committed to further strengthening its partnership with Ghana, regardless of which party takes office in the White House.

She highlighted the enduring importance of Ghana to the United States in Africa, noting that the country continues to serve as a cornerstone in U.S.-Africa relations.
“I am happy to be able to address the press because even in the excitement at the moment, I feel to emphasize that no matter who is the winner today, the United States and the embassy stand ready to deepen the partnership with Ghana,” Palmer said.
The ambassador also expressed her long-standing commitment to Ghana, stating, “We are going to have new administrations in both countries, and Ghana remains the foundational country for the United States in Africa. This is my 6th presidential election in my career, and I have faithfully served whoever is elected.
The relationship with Ghana remains extremely important to the United States, even with the change of administration.”
Ambassador Palmer’s statement comes as the U.S. presidential race reaches a milestone, with former President Donald Trump securing over 270 Electoral College votes, officially winning the 2024 U.S. election.
Trump’s victory, marking his return to the White House for a second term, has generated significant attention globally, including in Ghana, where the U.S. and Ghana share close diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties.
Ghana’s government has consistently maintained a strong diplomatic relationship with the United States, marked by cooperation in various sectors, including trade, security, and democratic governance.
Ambassador Palmer’s reassurances about the continuity of these relations, regardless of the electoral outcome, reflect the resilience of the bilateral ties between the two nations.
As Ghana prepares for its own national elections in December 2024, Ambassador Palmer’s comments underscore the importance of stable international relationships in fostering development and cooperation, particularly in the context of democratic governance.
Palmer further emphasized the necessity for collaboration, stating that the U.S. would continue to support Ghana’s democratic processes and remain a reliable partner in the country’s journey toward prosperity.
