The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has issued a statement urging the Black Stars to defeat Nigeria’s Super Eagles and qualify for the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.
Ghana and Nigeria, two of the continent’s top teams, will meet twice in four days. The first meeting will take place on Friday, March 25, 2022, at Baba Yara Stadium.
The second game is scheduled for Tuesday, March 29 at Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
The winner of the tie will represent Africa alongside four other African countries at the World Cup finals in Qatar.
Ahead of the first meeting in Kumasi, SWAG stated, “SWAG, the umbrella body for the sports media in Ghana, is urging the Black Stars to a double victory in their doubleheader match to reaffirm their supremacy over their archrivals, the Super Eagles of Nigeria.”
“We call on Ghanaians especially the media to rally behind the Stars and push them to victory as they seek a fourth appearance at the biggest football Mundial in the world to be staged in Qatar.
“We hope that the FA and the technical handlers of the team will make sure we bring back the love for the passion of the nation.”

Ghana have the upper hand here, with 21 wins to Nigeria’s 10. In fact, the Super Eagles have not beaten the Black Stars since 2006.
The Black Stars have won three of the last four games between the two sides, with the other game ending in a draw.
