In a significant victory, Ghana has secured the hosting rights for the 2026 Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Seniors Championships, outbidding Botswana in a fiercely contested race.

The West African nation garnered 12 votes, while Botswana managed only three, out of a total of 15 voting countries.

Ghana’s successful bid was led by a high-powered delegation comprising Bawa Majeed, Deputy Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Bawah Fuseini, President of Ghana Athletics, and Charles Osei Assibey, Vice President responsible for administration.

The country’s state-of-the-art facilities and its proven track record in hosting major events, including the 2023 African Games and the CAA Region II Seniors Championships, were key factors in its successful bid.

With this achievement, Ghana is well-positioned to deliver another exceptional event in 2026, solidifying its reputation as a premier host of top-tier athletic competitions in Africa.
