As the Netherlands prepares for Euro 2024 in Germany, Memphis Depay has embraced his Ghanaian roots, celebrating a goal in a friendly against Canada with a traditional Adowa dance.

The 30-year-old forward, who will lead the Dutch team in the tournament, scored a stunning goal assisted by Jeremie Frimpong, a winger with Ghanaian heritage.

The duo, both representing the Netherlands through birth, shared a joyful moment, performing the Adowa dance, a nod to their shared cultural background.

Depay explained that the impromptu dance was a spontaneous gesture, testing Frimpong’s knowledge of Ghanaian traditions.

“We didn’t plan it, but I wanted to see if he was familiar with the dance,” Depay said. “It’s a part of our heritage, and it felt natural to share that moment.”

Frimpong, fresh from winning the double with Bayer Leverkusen, also scored in the match, which ended in a 4-0 victory for the Netherlands.
