Ghanaian swimmer Harry Stacey’s Olympic journey came to an early end as he exited the men’s 100m freestyle competition on Tuesday.

The debutant, who secured a wildcard entry to the Paris 2024 Games, did not advance past the heats, finishing seventh in his group with a time of 51.12 seconds.
Stacey’s performance was below his personal best and did not meet the qualifying standard for the semi-finals, extinguishing hopes for Ghana’s first Olympic swimming medal.
Although he was confident before the competition, the young swimmer struggled to perform under the intense pressure of the Olympic stage.
The nation’s hopes now rest on other athletes, including swimmer Joselle Mensah and high jumper Rose Yeboah.
Ghana aims to surpass its single bronze medal from the Tokyo Olympics, with significant expectations also placed on the men’s 4x100m relay team.
