During the commissioning of the Anwomaso 1 Thermal Power Plant in Kumasi on April 17, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude for the patience exhibited by Ghanaians during the recent power outages, known as ‘dumsor’.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by the people of Ashanti and other regions, commending their resilience in enduring these difficulties as the government works towards permanent solutions.

In response to increasing concerns about frequent power cuts, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) had directed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to submit a load management timetable by April 2, 2024.
Despite the clamor for a schedule for load shedding, ECG stood firm in attributing the outages to technical problems and declared that there would be no formal implementation of a load-shedding timetable.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has imposed a heavy fine of GHc5,868,000.00 on members of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) board who served from January 1 to March 18, 2024.
This action was taken due to their violation of Regulation 39 of L.I. 2413, which requires prior notification to consumers before any power interruption.
The government’s commitment to ensuring sustainable electricity for the nation is represented by the Anwomaso 1 Thermal Power Plant, formerly known as the Ameri Power Plant, which has been moved to Kumasi to provide a stable power supply to Ghana’s middle and northern regions.
