President Akufo-Addo has announced that Ghana’s aviation sector has made a remarkable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, with a significant surge in air passenger traffic for both domestic and international travel.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Nana Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi on May 10, 2024, the President attributed the sector’s rebound to the notable increase in passenger traffic.

According to the President, Ghana experienced a substantial 25% growth in international passenger traffic, with 2,914,661 persons traveling through the country’s airports in 2023, compared to 2,328,758 in 2019.
Additionally, domestic passenger traffic saw a significant increase from 690,314 in 2019 to 775,662 in 2023.
The President emphasized that these figures indicate a full recovery of the aviation sector from the pandemic’s impact, paving the way for future growth.
He assured that his government would continue to support the sector’s development, enabling it to compete favorably with neighboring countries in the West African region and beyond.
To achieve this goal, President Akufo-Addo urged all stakeholders to collaborate and play their roles in making Ghana an aviation hub in the region.
