Franklin Cudjoe, founder of IMANI Africa, has written a scathing critique of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s economic legacy in Ghana.

In his opinion piece, Cudjoe lamented that Akufo-Addo’s fiscal irresponsibility has left the country with a debt burden that will persist long after his administration.

He emphasized that Akufo-Addo’s recklessness has severed Ghana’s access to international borrowing markets, leaving behind a trail of devastating consequences.

Cudjoe criticized the president’s pet project, the National Cathedral, as a misguided priority, questioning its relevance amidst economic hardship.

He expressed disappointment in Akufo-Addo’s leadership, stating that only true friends can speak truth to power.

Cudjoe listed various “sins” that have tarnished Akufo-Addo’s legacy, including fiscal recklessness, the controversial National Cathedral project, and the appointment of ministers engaged in corrupt practices.

He doubted Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s ability to revive the economy, likening his challenge to attempting to repair a damaged vehicle.

Cudjoe concluded by expressing his desire to see Ghana prosper but only if Akufo-Addo acknowledges his mistakes and takes responsibility for his actions.

He extended an olive branch, offering to reconcile their friendship if Akufo-Addo apologizes for his “bumpy ride” to economic instability.
