Labour resolution expert Austin Gamey has expressed deep concern over the state of Ghana’s economy, warning that the next government, following President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration, will inherit a catastrophic and disordered financial situation.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, September 24, the former Labour Minister highlighted the extent of the economic damage, stressing that it will take an experienced and steady hand to correct the mistakes and restore the economy.

“A new government will be confronted with a financial catastrophe and an economic mess.

We’ve regressed 67 years as a nation, and we need someone with experience and stability to lead a national dialogue around these issues,” he stated.

Gamey emphasized that the economic challenges are so severe that they cannot be resolved within five years, urging the public to understand the scale of the problem.

He also addressed the issue of illegal mining, known as galamsey, calling on President Akufo-Addo to heed the growing calls to put an end to the practice before leaving office.

“The harsh reality is that lives will be lost if galamsey continues, which is why I strongly support its immediate ban and advocate for a national conversation on the issue before the president exits,” he added.
