Lawyers for Solomon Asamoah, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), have disputed portions of a prosecution witness’s testimony, claiming that the controversial Accra Sky Train Project was discussed only once by the Fund’s Board.
During cross-examination on Wednesday, defence counsel confronted Yaw Odame-Darkwa, a former GIIF board member, with multiple sets of board minutes referencing the Sky Train Project. The witness had previously stated in his witness statement that the project was introduced “only once” at a board meeting.
The defence presented at least eight sets of board minutes dated between September 2018 and December 2020, each allegedly mentioning the Sky Train initiative.
When shown the documents in court, the witness confirmed that they had been provided to him during investigations by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). He maintained, however, that the minutes also contained references to other board projects.
Victoria Barth, lead counsel for Mr. Asamoah, argued that the repeated references in the official minutes contradicted the witness’s claim that the project was mentioned only once.
The defence pressed the witness to clarify whether he still stood by his original testimony despite the evidence suggesting that the project was discussed in at least eight board meetings.
Disagreements also arose over whether the witness could properly testify about the contents of the minutes without having reviewed them in full.
The court adjourned proceedings to Wednesday, November 19, 2025, to allow the witness to examine the relevant board records before continuing his testimony.
The cross-examination is part of ongoing proceedings in which Mr. Asamoah and Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi, former Board Chairman of GIIF, face trial over the alleged disbursement of US$2 million. Prosecutors claim the funds were released without full board approval and that “no work was done” in return.
